Setup cost

Charger hardware + installation (cabling, civil work, switchgear, commissioning) per charger, from 2026 published ranges for each country, minus any subsidy you enter. Grid upgrade costs are included in the "Premium" scenario.

Revenue & margin

Energy sold = sessions/day × kWh/session × operating days, capped at realistic charger throughput. Revenue = energy × your tariff; margin = tariff − electricity cost − maintenance, software and any revenue share.

Payback & ROI

Payback = setup cost ÷ monthly net profit. 5-year ROI = (60 months of net profit − setup cost) ÷ setup cost. Industry rule of thumb: DC sites become strongly profitable above ~15% utilization.

How much does it cost to set up an EV charging station in India?
A single AC charger (3.3–22 kW) typically costs ₹15,000–₹2.4 lakh installed. A 30–60 kW DC fast charger costs roughly ₹5–22 lakh including civil work and grid connection, while 120 kW+ ultra-fast chargers run ₹25 lakh to ₹1 crore+ depending on transformer and HT-line requirements. Several states also offer concessional EV electricity tariffs (₹5–6/kWh in Maharashtra and Karnataka) that materially improve margins.
What payback period should I expect?
Well-located commercial sites typically pay back in 2–5 years. AC chargers at busy workplaces and societies can recover their cost in 18–30 months because hardware is cheap; DC fast chargers at high-traffic locations often achieve payback in 24–36 months once utilization crosses ~15%. Highway hubs with consistent daytime traffic can do better still.
Which charger can my site's power supply support?
Single-phase connections support up to ~7.4 kW AC — fine for homes and overnight parking. Three-phase low-tension supply supports 11–22 kW AC and 30 kW DC. 60 kW DC fast chargers usually need 50–150 kVA of sanctioned load, and 120 kW+ ultra-fast chargers typically require an HT connection or a dedicated transformer, which adds both cost and lead time.
What tariff should I charge drivers?
In India, public AC charging typically retails at ₹12–18/kWh and DC fast charging at ₹15–25/kWh. US operators charge $0.30–0.60/kWh on Level 2 and $0.40–0.79/kWh on DC fast; UK rapid networks run £0.60–0.85/kWh.
